A dwarf planet once believed to be an asteroid is visible in our night skies month, and it shares a namesake with a common breakfast. The tiny planet Cere is named after the Roman goddess of agriculture and grain crops — the same name from which the word 'cereal' derives. Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, and in fact scientists long thought it to be an asteroid as well. Later, research revealed Ceres to be significantly different from its surrounding space rocks, so it was re-classified as a dwarf planet in 2006, according to NASA .
